Surgery Center FAQ’s

  1. Can I drive myself to the center on the day of surgery?: No. You will be receiving sedation, it is required that you have a driver to take you home and a responsible adult to be with you for 24 hours after your procedure. If no one accompanies you, your surgery could be canceled.
  2. Do I have to fast before my procedure?:You cannot eat after 12 Midnight the night prior to your procedure. If your surgery is scheduled at12:30PM or later, check with your surgical coordinator.
  3. Can I take my medication(s)?: Yes. You may take your medication(s) as you normally do with a small sip of water.  However, if you take insulin or blood thinners, or diuretics,  your doctor may advise you to alter your schedule.
  4. Will I pain during the procedure?: You will not have any pain. You may experience the sensation of touch, or temperature, but you will not have pain..A nurse Anesthetist is available to give you sedation so that you are as comfortable as possible during your procedure.
  5. Will I be in pain after the surgery?: Most people are very comfortable after the surgery. If you do experience some discomfort, it is usually alleviated with an over-the-counter remedy such as Tylenol.
  6. How long does the surgery last?: The surgery itself takes only a few minutes. However, satisfying administrative needs and completing preparatory work for your procedure can take time. You should expect to be at the center for about 2 hours.
  7. Will I have my surgery on the day of my first visit to be examined by the surgeon?: No. You will be set up for an evaluation with the surgeon first at which time a complete  eye exsamination will be performed and surgical options will be discussed with you.  Your surgery will be scheduled after this visit.
  8. How do I keep my eyes open during the surgery?: There is a special instrument that we will use that will keep your eye open for you. Once this instrument is applied, even blinking will not interfere with the surgery.
  9. Where can I be examined by the eye surgeons?:  We have four conveniently located offices in Avon, Bloomfield, Enfield and Windsor. All offices are available for appointments and consultations.
